I have seen large fish landed, but think that you have better control with a Rod and Reel when the Carp are larger http://www.carp-reels.co.uk/daiwa-carp-reels/daiwa-big-pit . Then dunk it in the water, this will give you the weight you need to get distance, and also the ability to cast under trees as the hook point is protected by the bread. The real seat is Berkeley's own design and is very compfy to cast with and play fish on. They are stunning looking rods and im am over the moon with how they cast and play fish. I never use controller floats, just simply attach 8-12lb line straight through to a specialist size 8 carp hook. The rule is floating baits, and if its a few inces below the surface then its not a floating bait.
As for feeling the lead down, and feeling for the "donk", will depend on what the lake bed is. I usually find that they will take tutti-frutti when most of the flavours havent provoked a bite.
Feeding times can be totally different in winter and from water to water and day to day. The action of the rod is more important when determining what it can and cant cast. Using fully slack lines can be used to good effect. Don't be scared if it looks too big as i have used a whole slice of bread with the crust removed moulded. I use backleads for about 95% of my fishing. So the process is cast, then feather the line whilst in the flight then do i literally just stop the line before it enter water. One of my mates has been using Warrior ES rods for the past year and he's very happy with them. Feeding times can be totally different in winter and from water to water and day to day. Is pole fishing a viable option for carp?. Century carp rods are amongst the best of them and can't really be faulted. Best of which was 28lb, Which according to the locals were uncatchable. The Delkim EV which ae £59.50, the middle range are the Delkim Pluses £84.99 (i think) ant the Delkim TXi £122.50 (the ones i use).
I never use controller floats, just simply attach 8-12lb line straight through to a specialist size 8 carp hook. It does make abit of differance but alot is down to the ability of the angler as a caster in general. If you fish big waters these are not the rods for you. Cast it into their path and i guarantee they won't be able to resist. They come with fuji eyes and a stainless but cap. I never use controller floats, just simply attach 8-12lb line straight through to a specialist size 8 carp hook. Another advantage of using backleads is that it can help conceal your mainline from the carp.
It also has no memory so it is very easy to work with. These were a dream to use.
The easiest way I've found to catch numbers of Carp is with a couple cans of corn it's cheap and effective.
